Nathan and I met while we were working for the same company. I was moving departments to the team where he worked, I actually said to our manager ‘If you sit me next to the Northern Irish lad I’ll fall in love with him’- 6 weeks later we were off on our first date... 5 and a half years on we are now Mr and Mrs!
I was anxious about trying dresses for the first time, how would they look on me? Would I ever find the one?! I’d heard so many good things about Y.A.P though, so knew I would be in good hands. I took a few examples of styles of dresses on the Y.A.P Instagram to my appointment so that we had a good starting point to work from. I knew I was to remain open minded and that I would just KNOW when I had found my precious one.
When I arrived I admit there was a shake in my hands but Brogan (My Bridal Stylist) sat me down and after about 5 minutes of her getting to learn about my dream wedding it was as if she had known me forever. Brogan pulled the two dresses that I said I would like to try as well as some others to mix it up a bit. The first dress I put on all my anxieties melted away- it was amazing, I didn’t feel like a child playing dress up I felt like a BRIDE! As I had never tried dresses on before I didn’t want to seem overly keen and so tried on a few more. But my Mam and Brogan could tell ‘You don’t have the smile of that first dress Amy, why don’t you try it back on?’ So I did. The moment I knew the dress was for me was when Brogan pulled back the curtains and everyone was crying! My mam said ‘Amy your Grandma in heaven wants you to have this dress, listen to the music’ and in the background Y.A.P were playing my Grandma’s favourite song ‘Ava Maria’ I don’t think I could have said yes to the dress any faster- YES to the first ever wedding dress I had tried on.
In one word- PERFECT! I couldn’t have imagined feeling any more special than I did walking down the aisle... seeing everyone’s reaction and specifically Nathan’s face.
The initial consultation was pre-pandemic and the service from the girls was second to none, Brogan was my consultant from the off with Danni and Ruth popping in to see the big reveal. Due to the pandemic our wedding was postponed and I was only able to take one person with me to collect my dress- my Mam. I won’t lie I was disheartened walking up Northumberland street to the studio knowing I would be collecting my dress and not being able to wear it for over another year. But my sad mood quickly left me once the appointment got started! I wanted to choose a veil however I only had my Mam with me to provide her thoughts. Brogan was so helpful bringing out the different options and talking through them all with me. She really stepped up and was completely a stand in member of the bride squad that day- I can’t thank her enough!
Welcoming, Fabulous, Special
Gown – Morilee Ravenna
Veil - Y.A.P. It had a subtle sparkle which I absolutely loved and felt it set the dress of perfectly.
Necklace and earrings - Joma Jewellery ‘Happily Ever after’ Collection
Hair piece - Jon Richard.
Location - Matfen Hall
Styling –Our theme was ‘enchanted forest’ the Great Hall we were married in was decorated with a lot of foliage climbing up the staircase.
Photographer – Lee Scullion
I knew from the second Nathan proposed that the only photographer I would have would be Lee, he had photographed a wedding we have attended the previous year and he was SUCH a personality to be around- we knew he would be perfect for us and he was. His style totally suited my vision for the day and we could not be happier with the way the photographs turned out.
Florist – Charlene from Wisteria Avenue
We hit it off with Charlene the first time she popped to our house for our initial consultation, she understood my vision for the flowers up the staircase and how I wanted to go mainly foliage heavy. At every appointment I increased the flower order as I got more excited and she could not be more accommodating. I have since ordered flowers from her outside of the bridal scene and they have always been EPIC. I would highly recommend her.
Videographer – Rue and Rose
Dan was like another wedding guest, he fit in perfectly and really captured the essence of the day. We never felt like we were being filmed and the videos we have had back are phenomenal
Hair- Keep it pinned
Katie took charge of all of the Bridal party hair on the morning of the wedding, I went to school with her so it was lovely to get back in touch and have her be a part of the wedding morning. She listened to everyone’s ideas and everyone’s hair stayed put all day (and even the next!)
Make Up – Carly Michelle Make Up and Hair
Carly did all of our makeup and it was fantastic, no one’s makeup budged an inch and all we needed to do throughout the day was apply more lipstick! Carly is a bundle of infectious happy energy and was a fabulous addition to the morning.
Cake- Truly Scrumptious
Tracey made our cake which was super tasty- we went for three tiers of different designs and I had a cake topper made which featured our dog Pippa.
Coco-luminaire provided our light up ‘Mr and Mrs Adams’ which was a great backdrop to the day.
Special Mentions – My cousin Amanda did all of our sign writing for the wedding including our table plans, and my bridesmaid Debbie designed all of the stationary including invitations.
I am so grateful to have been able to work together with both Debbie and Amanda to create such personal and bespoke aspects of the day.
If you could give one piece of advice for future Y.A.P brides about to embark on their bridal journey, what would it be?
Take everything in your stride and enjoy making the memories! It is easy to get caught up in the small details – trust me- no one will notice how many diamantes are in the candle jars on the day!
Love, Amy and Nathan xo
