Tell us how you and your partner met. Your ‘love story’…
David and I met through a blind date. Our best friends were in a relationship and they decided we would be a perfect match, mainly because of our shared love of Disney! I was 17 and it was David’s 18th Birthday on the day we met. We met for a coffee in Starbucks with mutual friends and it all blossomed from there.
How did you feel before your first appointment to try on gowns?
I was nervous because I didn’t know how long it was going to take to find ‘the dress’ or if I even would get that ‘feeling’. But I remember just trying to take everything in and be excited because it was a special moment that I wouldn’t be able to get back.
Did you have in mind the style and look you wanted from your gown? If so what was it?
I didn’t really have a style in mind. I just wanted a dress that once I put it on, I didn’t want to take it off! I hoped that I would have the feeling of just ‘knowing’ that everyone talks about.
Tell us about the ‘You Are Precious’ service you received along your bridal journey …
I had an amazing experience with ‘YAP Bridal’. Once I found my dress, I then ended up getting two beautiful bridesmaid dresses from the Motee Maid range. The girls could not have been more helpful and were so accommodating to my two bridesmaids and Mam who accompanied me on every visit. They always made sure we were comfortable and were reassuring and helpful when it came to make tough decisions!
How did you feel when you found your precious gown & how did you know it was ‘The One’?
I tried on around 8 dresses on my first visit to YAP which was my first visit to any dress shop and although they were all so beautiful, I just didn’t get that feeling that everyone says you get. Even once I had tried on my dress, I ended up going to try on other dress's because I just had to be sure that it was right. But after visiting one other shop, I couldn’t stop thinking about my dress. I went back to the shop and tried it on again. All I wanted was for David to see me in it right there and then. I just remember one of the girls saying ‘You have to go with your heart and not with your head’ and that’s when I said ‘yes to the dress!’. It was just perfect. It wasn’t what I know David would have expected but I knew he would love it as much as I did. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect dress for our beautiful day.
How did you feel in your amazing Y.A.P gown when you tied the knot?
Our wedding day was like a dream. Everyone says to take in every moment and although it went by so quickly, I took in every second and I couldn’t have wished for a more perfect dress. I felt like a true princess. I felt, elegant, beautiful and it was everything I wanted for our wedding. Two of my highlights was when it got the seal of approval from my Dad and David who both slightly teared up when they first saw me. Those are two special moments I’ll never forget.
What three words would you use to describe your overall Y.A.P Bridal Journey?
Personal. Sophisticated. Magical
Tell us about the perfect accessories …
I didn’t really have very many accessories because I didn’t want to outshine my beautiful beaded dress. I had a floor length, cathedral length veil with delicate beads all the way around the edge. I had beaded material that matched the dress made into a slim comb to go into my hair. I had my late Gran’s beautiful pearl earrings as my ‘something borrowed’ and I wore a Tiffany bracelet which was my surprise gift from David on the morning of the wedding. I then wore Ted Baker cream shoes with rose gold embellishment on the top.
Talk to us about the location and how you styled your day …
We wanted our day to be classy and elegant from start to finish. We got married at David’s church ‘St Joseph’s’ in Sunderland and then travelled to ‘Rockliffe Hall’ for our reception. It was beyond perfect. Already you feel so special when you arrive, knowing you are the only bride and groom at the venue for the day. We had beautiful floral centre pieces and a simple flower wall behind the top table. The chairs were finished off with ivory sashes and wisteria ribbon. Our favours were lavender pouches and we had a beautiful mirror seating plan. The whole room was breath taking and it felt so sophisticated. It was just the way we had hoped. The whole venue was just stunning and was more than we could have wanted.
Tell us about your chosen suppliers and how they made your day perfect …
We used Helen from ‘The Little Love Card Company’ who was amazing. She hand made all of our invitations, order of services, table numbers, table place cards and much more. She was wonderful and we could not fault her. We also hired our flower wall from ‘Floral Walls North East’. Michelle was incredible and made sure we had the perfect colours to complement our other decorations. Our flowers were from a friend of the family as well as our cake.
If you could give one piece of advice for future Y.A.P brides about to embark on their bridal journey, what would it be?
Wow, that’s tough… At each key moment in the day, just take a minute, stop and take in everything around you. Look up from the bubble you are in and see everything. What your guests are wearing, who they are talking to, who is dancing, how much they are enjoying the food you’ve paid for! It can all go by so fast, make sure you stop and just smile at how perfect everything has turned out.
Thank you Cara for letting us be a part of your beautiful bridal journey - we have adored looking after to you. We wish you and David a lifetime of love and happiness. Forever a part of the Y.A.P family.
