Jamie and I always seemed to cross paths over the years, we went to the same school, worked at the same place and he worked at the gym I used to go to - but we never actually spoke to each other! Now I look back it seems like fate always tried to push us together, but it wasn’t until a mutual friend set us up that we starting talking. Before I knew it I had moved into his, we got a dog, a house, got engaged, and then 2 years and 8 months after we first started talking we got married! When they say ‘you know, you know’ and I definitely knew when I met Jamie that he was the one.
I was excited to try gowns on, however before going to my appointment at Y.A.P bridal I first had an appointment elsewhere earlier in the day which unfortunately didn’t really feel like the 'wedding dress experience' I had imagined having. I came away feeling a bit deflated that I hadn’t found ‘the dress’, and was debating on settling for a gown I tried on there which I was unsure about. I didn’t think I’d get the feeling of finding ‘the one’ at that point, I was just enjoying trying lots of beautiful dresses on!
With my dress I knew I definitely wanted something with lace and that had a bit of a ‘boho’ vibe to it. In the past I was always convinced I wanted a bit of a ‘princessy’ dress, so I had been trying on these styles previously, as well as trying on more fitted dresses too. I was open to trying on different shapes/styles as I wasn’t 100% sure on what would suit me, so I definitely felt like I needed a bit of guidance!
I had a completely different experience to my previous bridal appointment the second I walked into Y.A.P. It was such a stunning boutique and I felt so welcomed the moment I sat down with Brogan (my stylist). She asked me few questions about my style and budget, and I felt so at ease throughout my consultation. I tried on a few different dresses but nothing seemed quite right, Brogan listened to what I was and wasn’t liking and from this she ended up finding my dream dress! One thing I loved about Y.A.P was how all the girls who work there really got involved too, they gave me their genuine honest opinions, and they were all so happy for me when I found my dress.
You always hear of people that when they find their dream dress the get emotional; I was convinced I’d never be that person. But when I found ‘the one’... as soon as I put it on I started welling up a bit! In that moment I knew it was THE dress, and when my mum and sisters saw me in it they started crying too, and that confirmed it even more for me. I felt so special and it felt like a combination of the styles of dresses I had been trying on, so knew it was perfect!
I felt incredible wearing my dress on our wedding day, it was exactly what I had imagined and I couldn’t wait for Jamie to see me in it. When I got to the end of the aisle and Jamie said to me with tears in his eyes, ‘You look unreal’ I can’t even describe how incredible it felt that everything had come together so perfectly!
Magical, personal, amazing!
When it came to having a ‘Love in Lockdown Wedding’, it really threw us as we had everything planned down to a tee only a few months after getting engaged. Having to strip back all of our plans that we had in place for our original wedding date made everything so much more personal, and more about the love we have for each other over anything else. I know people always say on their wedding day they always feel like it’s over before they know it but I really felt like we made the most of every minute with those closest to us.
Due to the pandemic we had to postpone our wedding 3 times (this was our 4th attempt!) so our original wedding plans changed. We chose The Parlour at Blagdon for our ceremony as we wanted somewhere more intimate. We kept the styling really simple as The Parlour has a lovely rustic vibe without having to add much to it. We added a few touches of eucalyptus, ivy and lace to the ceremony room, and I had the most beautiful dried flower bouquet full of pampas grass and eucalyptus which I had so many compliments on!
Our suppliers were amazing! After having to postpone our big day we were able to move everything we had booked to our celebration in 2022.
For our ceremony The Parlour helped with our décor.
We had Mark Dilbo as our photographer - he has been so amazing throughout the pandemic and has moved our date so many times for us with no issues! He captured our photos on the day and made us feel so relaxed. He’ll also be coming to our celebration in 2022 to capture that day too!
As we couldn’t have a reception (thanks Coronavirus), my mum and sisters organised a drinks and cake station outside of our venue for after the ceremony. So we all had some cake and a drinks toast which was a lovely surprise to the day.
Although I do have a veil from Y.A.P to go with my dress, I decided to save that for our bigger celebration in 2022. I did my own hair and makeup, ‘Style and Seated’ did my stunning bouquet and made a custom buttonhole for Jamie to match. When it comes to 2022 I’m planning on going all out with my hair, makeup and accessories, but for our intimate ceremony I wanted to keep things really simple!
My one piece of advice would be to not get too caught up or stressed about the small things! Having to change our wedding date four times was certainly a challenge, but in the end it didn’t matter what our wedding looked like, the fact that Jamie and I could get married was the only thing that mattered to me. All that matters in the end is the love you have for each other, and what’s more important than that - especially in a global pandemic! Although, I still can’t wait to have the biggest celebration in 2022, celebrate again, and how lucky am I that I get to wear my beautiful dress twice?!
Emma we are so over the moon that you and Jamie finally got to tie the knot! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful intimate ceremony with us - we cannot wait to see pics of your big celebration next year, and we wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness.
Your Are Precoius always,
Your Y.A.P team xoxo
