We were introduced through friends. We had both just moved to London after graduating. Our first date was in a tiny tapas bar called José where, five years later, Benedict gave me my engagement ring.
I was so excited to start trying on gowns - I love dressing up!
The style I had in mind was something quite demure with a full skirt - something with a hint of Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly. Pockets were also high on the agenda!
The team were so attentive. They listened to my ideas before pulling out dresses that reflected exactly what I'd described. The girls really know their stuff, so I was also eager to try on other styles that they suggested might work.
Everyone at YAP is so warm and welcoming. I was made to feel special from the moment I walked through the door. The shop is such a gorgeous space to try on gowns. The team were thoughtful and professional from start to finish.
I knew my dress was the one when my Mum started to cry as I tried it on… which started me off as well. I still tried on plenty of other styles but kept coming back to the one dress - I never wanted to take it off.
I felt so special, I never wanted to take my dress off!
Personal, warm, sparkling.
Tell us about the perfect accessories …
The Y.A.P ladies helped me to choose a beautiful veil to complement my gown. We kept the rest of my hair accessories minimal – just a few pearl pins, which were my "something new". My earrings were simple pearl studs which were my 21st birthday present; my "something old", and I wore my grandmother's ring as something "borrowed" and "blue".

We fell in love with the venue, Brinkburn, at first sight. The estate is nestled in woodland in a picturesque loop of the River Coquet. The priory church, which dates from the twelfth century, is glorious. The architecture is so striking that we didn’t want anything to distract from it, so we chose to have only a few floral pieces at the entrance and at the altar. We wanted to reflect the woodland setting, so we used large, meadow style arrangements of foxgloves, cow parsley and stocks. The wedding breakfast was in tipis by the river, where we continued the pastoral floral theme with the addition of twinkling fairy lights and candles.
Any colour schemes/ themes for your big day?
We kept everything understated to let our gorgeous venue shine. We only used flowers, candles and beautiful plant-dyed silk ribbons to decorate. We had a simple palette of soft greens and white with a touch of pink in the floral arrangements.

The team at Brinkburn are superstars and made the whole weekend run smoothly. Our photographers, Jessica Reeve and Ailsa Reeve, were just fantastic and such great fun. My make-up artist, Victoria Holdstock, and hairdresser, Tina Elliot, made sure that everyone looked perfect. Groom & Co did an amazing job adjusting my dress. Christine at Lavenders Blue did our stunning flowers throughout the venue and our gorgeous buttonholes and bouquets, which were finished with silk ribbons from Kate Cullen. Wilkins Dining put together the most fabulous menu and we had the dreamiest cake from Dawn at The Master Cakesmith. Bride & Groove made sure our guests danced the night away. We’re so grateful to them all.
