Tell us how you and your partner met. Your ‘love story’…

My husband Peter and I have been together for 8 years, since we were 16. We met in sixth form – I had just moved 300 miles away from where I grew up with my family so safe to say I was feeling very scared and vulnerable walking into a school where I knew nobody and all my friends were so far away! On my first day, I was waved over by a group of people who spotted me wandering about by myself and there a friendship was born. Peter was part of this group and we bonded quickly one lunchtime over the fact that we are both drummers (although I must stress Peter is the real talent when it comes to drumming!), and it was our mutual love of music, Peter’s struggle with simultaneous equations and my love of maths that helped our friendship to grow rapidly. From there it wasn’t long before Peter asked me to be his girlfriend, and 6 years later he asked me to be his wife! Now we have been married for 3 months (where does the time go?!), and loving this new adventure we get to take together!

How did you feel before your first appointment to try on gowns?

Before my first appointment to try on wedding dresses I felt so excited and quite relaxed – it was only about 3 weeks after we got engaged and I wasn’t actually planning on buying anything that day! My idea was to just take a look and get a feel for the sort of thing I liked, as we still had a year and a half until the wedding day. However, it turned out that after only about 6 dresses I found ‘the one’ and I knew I’d regret it if a walked out without it!

Did you have in mind the style and look you wanted from your gown? If so what was it?

When we got engaged one of the first things I got excited about was creating a pinterest board full of wedding inspiration, so I had saved a lot of dresses that I felt were right up my street. I had in mind something with lace and more of an A-Line style, I wasn’t so keen on the bigger ballgowns but equally I was willing to try lots of different styles as you never know until you see it on!

Tell us about the ‘You Are Precious’ service you received along your bridal journey

I had the best experience buying my wedding dress from Y.A.P.. From the moment I walked in with my mum and sister we were treated with such kindness and we felt instantly comfortable and welcome. I wasn’t made to feel like I had to try on styles I wasn’t keen on, and I absolutely loved every single dress that was pulled out! I loved how supportive the whole team were, you can really tell that every single one of the girls loves what they do and that really shines through during the whole experience.

How did you feel when you found your dream gown & how did you know it was ‘The One’?

I was so surprised when I tried on my dress for the first time – I had originally thought that I wouldn’t go for a fitted style or a low neckline, but this dress was so different and so beautiful that I had to try it on! I couldn’t believe how much I loved it, I love the overskirt as this made me feel so much more comfortable about the fitted style of the dress, and as soon as the curtain opened and I saw my mum and my sisters faces, I knew it was the one. They said to me that when this dress was on my smile was the biggest and they were absolutely right!

How did you feel in your amazing Y.A.P gown when you tied the knot?

I felt so confident and beautiful in my gown on the day! I remember walking down the aisle and seeing Peter’s face light up as he saw me, and all my nerves just melted away. The dress fitted like a glove on the day and was so comfortable, I wore converse too so these combined with the dress of my dreams meant I could dance the night away without a care in the world!

What three words would you use to describe your overall Y.A.P Bridal experience?

Welcoming, positive, wonderful!

Talk to us about the location and how you styled your day …

We got married at Holy Saviours Church, Tynemouth and had our meal and reception at Holy Saviours church hall. We wanted to keep costs lower and our family ended up being heavily involved in the styling of the day which we loved. We wanted people to come to our wedding and feel like it reflected and suited us – so many of our guests on the day told us how much they loved how the day felt like ‘us’ which meant so much to us! My mum made our incredible cakes, my husband’s grandma made to sugar flowers for the cake decorations, my mother in law did our favours, my grandpa made our place-cards and table names, my sister painted the images we had on our tables names, and Peter and I made the table plan pallet ourselves! We loved having so many people involved, and we included little touches to keep it even more personal like minimal table dressing, cosy lighting and the table names were Wainwright mountains in the Lake District as Peter and I have a goal to reach the peak of all 214 Wainwright mountains!

Tell us about your chosen suppliers and how they made your day perfect …

Hair styling - Wonderland Hair and Beauty by Alice
Alice was fantastic! We had a trial roughly 2 months before the wedding, and the first style we tried I absolutely loved – I had a silver hair vine that I wanted to incorporate but I was unsure how, so Alice styled it herself and I loved how it turned out!

Makeup – Wildflower Makeup and beauty by Poppy
I don’t really wear makeup day-to-day, and I wanted to feel like myself on the big day so I knew I wanted a natural makeup look. I found Poppy in a bridal magazine and in her section she mentioned doing a lot of natural bridal makeup, score! At our first trial the makeup look was gorgeous, however after wearing it all day I decided I wanted to go for even less makeup. On the wedding day I said this to Poppy and she was amazing, she offered to show me at every stage so we could decide exactly when to stop applying and the end result was just wonderful!

Venue dressing + chair hire – The Event Dressers
The Event Dressers turned the tired church hall into the reception venue of dreams! There were white drapes hanging around all the walls, beautiful crisp tablecloths and napkins, soft lighting, minimalistic greenery and lighting on the tables. They matched the little sprigs of gypsophilia on the tables to our bouquets which was a lovely touch, and they were so accommodating and efficient!

Catering – Epicurus
Epicurus made us the most amazing wedding breakfast! The food was so tasty, all of our guests were complimenting the food and the staff were just the most lovely people, we had such a great experience with them!

Bar – The Geordie Lamp Bar
Our wedding was the first wedding these guys had done since setting up their business in 2020. They were absolutely amazing – we would honestly recommend them to anyone! Prior to the wedding they came to the reception hall to look at how the space would work for them and were so prepared for everything. They were so friendly and went above and beyond to ensure that everybody’s experience was a great one!

Flowers - Cornflower Blue Flowers
We were so pleased with our flowers – we knew we wanted to go quite minimal to match the vibe of the rest of the wedding and so after sending a brief description and photos of the sort of things I was thinking of, Janet knew exactly what I meant and they came out beautifully!

DJ – Icon Entertainment
James was our DJ and he was brilliant! We had requested soft acoustic rock music for the background while we ate and then we sent James a spotify playlist containing all the sort of music that we enjoy and he worked off that for the music in the reception. It was fantastic and during the reception our friends said song after song “this is a TUNE!” – there was no chance to sit down because every song we had to get up and dance to it! We also decided to do the newlywed game (also sometimes referred to as the ‘shoe game’, highly recommend!)  which James presented by reading out questions that our maid of honour and best man had written and we and the guests had so much fun with this!

Tell us about your perfect accessories …

I am a very minimal person when it comes to accessories in everyday life and my aim for the wedding day was to feel like myself so I decided to go very minimal for the wedding jewellery too. I wore a small necklace with a single Swarovski crystal on it, and then Swarovski huggie earrings. I also wore a hair vine in my hair, and converse on my feet because the most important thing to me on the day was comfort, comfort, comfort! I also wrapped a handkerchief around the stems of my flower bouquet – the napkin was made by my great grandmother in 1850 and has been worn at several weddings throughout generations of my family so this was extra special.

If you could give one piece of advice for future Y.A.P brides about to embark on their bridal journey, what would it be?

It is so difficult to think of just one thing but I think it has to be that on the day, that thing you’re worrying about won’t matter! On our day our timings went completely out of the window and we missed a couple of formal photographs due to different reasons, but actually it didn’t matter! We were so blissfully happy and all our guests had the best time and at the end of the day those are the memories you’re going to take away with you!

Megan thank you for sharing your beautiful personal Bridal journey and day with us! So much love, luck and happiness.

You Are Precious always,

Your Y.A.P team xoxo
